Katie Waters lost her mother at a very young age, and her father left soon after, abandoning her to the orphanage. Despite these early hardships, she grew to be an artist, inspired by the people and natural world around her. Slices of Life is just that: slices of Katie's life, little snippets that meant something and linger on in memory. She remembers finding a family in the orphanage: A year passed; l was lined up with all the others, white dress, socks, and shoes, and stood there, patiently waiting. They paced and looked along the line to choose which one. l raised my arms to be picked up. l was chosen, then taken home to meet my new brothers and family. A whole new life had begun. Katie is grateful for all the lessons that have crossed her path in life so far, teaching her forgiveness, strength, courage, and understanding.
